Tasks and events
Tasks
Tasks represent work that you want to complete. Each task belongs to a list and can be completed directly from the task list, placed on the calendar manually, or added to the calendar by autocomplete.
For information about organising tasks into folders and lists, see Task Hierarchy.
Create and edit a task
To create a task from a list:
- Open Tasks.
- Open the list where you want to keep the task.
- Select Add task.
- Enter a title.
- Add any other information you need.
- Select Save.
Select Save & New if you want to save the task and immediately create another one.
You can also create a task directly on the calendar:
- Select the required time by clicking and dragging across the calendar.
- In the creation panel, select Task.
- Choose the to-do list where the task should be stored.
- Enter the task title and any other details.
- Select Save.
The selected time becomes the task’s first occurrence on the calendar.
If you create a task on the calendar without selecting a to-do list, the task appears in the Inbox.
To edit an existing task, open its list and select the task. Changes to an existing task are saved as you make them.
To open the full task editor from the calendar, select a task occurrence, then select . This button appears in the upper-right corner of the panel, beside Delete.
Use the task menu to move the task to another list or delete it.
Task properties
A task can contain the following information:
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Title | The name of the task. |
| To-do list | The list where the task is stored. |
| Start from | The earliest date or time when the task can begin. |
| Deadline | The date or time by which the task should be completed. |
| Expected duration | The amount of time you expect the task to take. |
| Priority | The importance of the task: Low, Medium, High, or ASAP. |
| Description | Notes or other information related to the task. |
| Colour | The colour used to identify the task in lists and on the calendar. |
| Autocomplete properties | Settings that determine whether and where autocomplete can place the task. |
Some properties can be inherited from the list or folder containing the task. For more information, see Hierarchical Task Properties.
For details about autocomplete settings, see Autocomplete.
Start dates and deadlines
Use Start from to specify when work on a task may begin. It does not place the task on the calendar at that time.
Use Deadline to specify when the task should be completed.
You can enter a date without a time or set an exact date and time. If you use both properties, the deadline must be later than the start.
Autocomplete uses these limits when deciding where the task can be placed. Hard and soft deadlines are described in Autocomplete.
Recurring tasks
A recurring task is represented by a series of task occurrences on the calendar.
To create a recurring task:
- Add the task to the calendar.
- Open the task occurrence.
- Select Does not repeat.
- Choose how often the task should repeat.
- Select Save.
You can create daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or custom recurrence patterns.
To change a repeat rule after creation, open any task occurrence and edit its current repeat setting. The new rule applies to the selected occurrence and the occurrences that follow it.
When you change the time of an occurrence without changing its repeat rule, or delete an occurrence, Nodify Calendar asks which part of the series you want to change:
- Only this occurrence changes the selected occurrence.
- This and following occurrences changes the selected occurrence and every occurrence after it.
- All occurrences changes the entire series.
Choose the option that matches the part of the series you want to update.
Task occurrences
A task occurrence is a scheduled appearance of a task on the calendar. One task can have multiple occurrences.
Occurrences may be:
- created manually;
- created as part of a recurring series;
- placed dynamically by autocomplete;
- created when autocomplete splits a task into chunks.
Open a task to see its scheduled occurrences and completed progress. Select All occurrences to view the complete list.
Each occurrence has its own start and end time. It can also have an occurrence-specific title, description, colour, recurrence pattern, timezone, and reminders.
Changing an occurrence does not necessarily change the main task. For example, you can add a description that applies only to one occurrence or keep the description inherited from the task.
A task occurrence moved manually on the calendar becomes fixed. For information about allowing autocomplete to place it again, see Autocomplete.
Complete, reopen, or delete a task
Select the checkbox beside a task to mark the entire task as completed. Completed tasks appear in the Completed section of their list.
Select the checkbox again to reopen the task.
You can also complete an individual task occurrence. When completing the last relevant occurrence, or when the completed time reaches the task’s expected duration, Nodify Calendar may ask whether you also want to complete the main task:
- Select Yes to complete the task.
- Select No to complete only the occurrence.
To delete a task, open its menu and select Delete. Deleting the task also removes its associated occurrences from the calendar.
If you only want to remove one scheduled appearance, delete that occurrence instead of the main task.
Current limitations
Task dependencies cannot currently be created or managed through the Nodify Calendar interface.
A task can belong to only one to-do list at a time. To organise work into additional levels, use folders and lists as described in Task Hierarchy.
