Events
Create and manage events
Events represent activities that happen at a specific time, such as meetings, appointments, classes, or travel.
Events stay where you place them. Autocomplete plans tasks around timed events marked as Busy but does not move the events themselves.
Create a calendar
Every event must belong to a calendar. When you first install Nodify Calendar, your vault includes a calendar named Personal. Vaults you add later start without calendars.
To create another calendar:
- Select Events at the top of the right sidebar.
- If you have several vaults, select the vault where you want to create the calendar.
- Select Add calendar.
- Enter a name and choose a color.
- Press Enter to save.
You can create separate calendars for different groups of events, such as work, personal appointments, and travel.
For calendar settings and organization, see Calendars.
Create and edit an event
To add an event to the initial calendar:
- Select Events at the top of the right sidebar.
- If you have several vaults, select the vault where you want to keep the event.
- Open Personal.
- Select Add event.
- Enter an event title and set its start and end time.
- Select Save.
Select Save & New if you want to save the event and immediately create another one in the same calendar.
You can also create an event directly on the calendar:
- Select the required time by clicking and dragging across the calendar.
- In the creation panel, select Event.
- Select the calendar where the event should be stored, checking that it belongs to the intended vault.
- Enter the event details.
- Select Save.
To change the event’s title, description, reminders, color, visibility, or availability, select Events at the top of the right sidebar, open the calendar that contains the event, then select the event. These changes are saved automatically.
To reach the event from the calendar, select one of its occurrences, then select Open in sidebar in the upper-right corner of the panel.
For details about the available settings, see Event properties.
Event occurrences
An event occurrence is one scheduled appearance of an event. A one-time event has one occurrence, while a recurring event can have many.
Open an event, expand Occurrences, and select View all beside Relevant occurrences to view the complete list.
To change when an occurrence starts or ends, edit it directly on the calendar or open it in the right sidebar:
- On the calendar: Drag the event to move it without changing its duration. Drag its top edge to change the start time or its bottom edge to change the end time. The new time is saved when you release it.
- In the right sidebar: Open the event, expand Occurrences, then open the menu beside the required occurrence and select Open. Change its start or end time; the changes are saved automatically.
To change only one scheduled appearance, open that occurrence and edit it. To remove one appearance without deleting the event, delete the occurrence.
For occurrence-specific properties and inherited information, see Event properties.
To make an event repeat or change an existing series, see Recurring events in Event properties.
Tasks versus events
Use an event when an activity must happen at a specific time. Use a task when the work needs to be completed but its exact position can remain flexible.
| Use a task when… | Use an event when… |
|---|---|
| The work can be placed in any suitable available period. | The activity must happen at a specific time. |
| You need an expected duration, priority, start date, or deadline. | You need a fixed start and end time. |
| Autocomplete may place or rearrange the work. | The item must remain fixed on the calendar. |
| You want to mark the work as completed. | Completion tracking is not required. |
| The item belongs to a to-do list. | The item belongs to a calendar. |
For more information about creating and managing tasks, see Create and manage tasks.
Delete an event
To delete an entire event, select Events, open its calendar, select the event, open its menu, and select Delete. This removes the event and all its occurrences.
To delete an occurrence, right-click it on the calendar and select Delete.
You can also select an event occurrence on the calendar and use Delete in the upper-right corner of the panel.
For a recurring event, Nodify Calendar asks whether you want to delete only the selected occurrence, the selected and following occurrences, or the entire series.
Deleting an occurrence or a recurring series keeps the main event in its calendar.
