Events

Event properties

Use event properties to set an event’s title, description, color, reminders, visibility, and availability. Start and end times, timezone, and repeat settings are configured on its occurrences.

Properties overview

PropertyDescription
TitleThe name of the event.
DescriptionNotes or other information related to the event.
CalendarThe calendar where the event is stored. Every event must belong to one calendar.
Start and endThe date and time when the event begins and ends.
TimezoneThe timezone used for the event time.
RepeatDetermines whether and how often the event repeats.
ColorThe color used to identify the event in lists and on the calendar.
RemindersNotifications for the event’s occurrences.
VisibilityThe event’s visibility value: Default visibility, Private, or Public.
AvailabilityDetermines whether the event is treated as Busy or Free.

For instructions on using Repeat, see Recurring events below.

Reminders work while Nodify Calendar is running, including in the background with its window closed. They stop when you quit the app.

Selecting Public stores that visibility value but does not publish the event or make it accessible to other people.

Inherited properties

An event inherits its color from its calendar unless you select another color.

Events can also inherit a default reminder from their calendar or the app settings. You can add multiple reminders to an individual event, disable inherited reminders, or restore them.

Changing a calendar’s default color or reminder affects events that inherit that setting. Values configured directly on an event remain unchanged.

For calendar color and default reminder settings, see Calendars.

Occurrence properties

Event occurrences work similarly to task occurrences. Each occurrence has its own start and end time and can override the main event’s title, description, color, timezone, and reminders.

Changing an occurrence-specific value does not change the main event’s value. For example, you can add a description for one occurrence while other occurrences continue to inherit the event’s description.

For instructions on opening and editing an occurrence, see Create and manage events.

Recurring events

Use a recurring event for an activity that follows a regular schedule.

To make an event repeat:

  1. Select the required time on the calendar.
  2. Select Event.
  3. Enter the event details.
  4. Select Does not repeat.
  5. Choose how often the event should repeat.
  6. Select Save.

You can create daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or custom recurrence patterns.

To change a repeat rule after creation, open any event occurrence and edit its current repeat setting. The new rule applies to the selected occurrence and the occurrences that follow it.

When you change an occurrence’s time without changing its repeat rule, or delete an occurrence, Nodify Calendar asks which part of the series you want to change:

  • Only this occurrence — the selected occurrence.
  • This and following occurrences — the selected occurrence and every occurrence after it.
  • All occurrences — the entire series.

Unlike a recurring task, a recurring event does not track completion.

Fixed commitments

A timed event marked as Busy is a fixed commitment. Autocomplete treats that period as unavailable and places tasks around it.

Changing a busy event’s time or availability may cause autocomplete to update task placements.

An event marked as Free remains visible in the calendar but does not block autocomplete from placing tasks during the same period.

All-day events also remain visible without blocking autocomplete. Use a timed Busy event when the event must reserve specific hours.

Autocomplete never moves events.

For more information about automatic task placement, see Autocomplete.
